STATEMENT

John Schwein

As early as first grade, my mother recognized my talent and introduced me to her close friend, a commercial artist, who realized my interest and natural abilities.  This was my first exposure to portrait drawing with pencil.  I was fortunate to attend classes at the renowned Erie Museum.  These lessons laid the foundation for my future in art and design.

Art is a significant part of my daily life.  My inspiration comes from nature and the environment that surrounds me.  I have experimented in many mediums including pen and pencil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, photography and most recently, mosaic.  I have attended multiple workshops to expand my knowledge.  My work has been displayed in many galleries in Erie, including Kada Gallery, Glass Growers and Hannon Gallery.  I have also done commissions in portrait work.  My love for art motivates me to develop and grow as my skill with all mediums matures.

Judeth Pekala Hawkins

In my paintings I turn a complicated thought or episode into a single visual image.  Using color, shape, and metaphor to describe my feelings, I communicate through the exploration of new techniques.  This year the experimenting has included allowing the preliminary drawing of the composition to remain exposed as well as using relief printmaking processes in the paintings.  Unwilling to compromise the subject of the painting or the potential of the medium, I present myself with a challenge from which it seems I will never tire.

Matt Cipov

Fits of pleasure.  Fits of confusion.  The occasional bliss of occasional disarray.  Mechanical failure.  My driving force.  Immediacy.  Transportation.  Lunging hands.  Cracking at the seams.  Go with it.  Let go.  Quarrel.  Internal.  I'm still a child.  It pumps my blood.  Seven weeks a day.  Three-hundred and sixty-five years.  Do I guide it?  What guides me?  Total turmoil?  Complete love?  The sum of all my dreams.  This I do for love.
