March 2010 exhibit STATEMENT None Available STATEMENT ALTERED RECLAIMED TECHNOLOGY Today technology produces capabilities and new possibilities at a pace often hard to keep up with. As progress marches on the life of technologies hard ware is often short lived producing vast amounts of near useless material. The one redeeming factor of this equation being, much of the internal mechanisms of our appliances are so beautifully designed. The disassembly reveals brilliant colors of wire, fascinating shapes in metal and plastic, patterns and textures of all descriptions to fill the designers pallet. Assembled sculpture regardless of the materials deals with the combining and joining of the pieces to become the whole. By disassembly, collection, and examination the internals normally cloaked in plastic may now be viewed and given a new purpose. Added to the formula are materials of traditional craft. Wood and metal will become the armature, framing and connecting the pieces so unfamiliar to each other. The reflections in glass, mirrors, and polished metals extend the vision of complexity and detail. Found objects of no relationship to technology are blended into the structures. The intention of all this effort is to combine the elements into objects that display a sense of purpose or vision of a previously unknown reality. Architecture, religion, and fantasy are only a few of the influences that guide the direction of the work. More than mere constructions the pieces become objects of a purpose that eludes the viewer. Not unlike the discovery of artifacts from the past these works are the artifacts of a future yet to become the past. |
