Lorraine Brinit Bush

STATEMENT

In the beginning of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”, I believe attributed to Coleridge, it reads, “Like one who over a lonely road doth walk in fear and dread and having once turned round turns no more his head.  For he knows a fearful fiend doth close behind him tread.”  In seeing the classic horror films, it brings that statement alive for me in the way the characters are portrayed.  I am hoping to bring joy and spark interest to the viewers of my paintings of the eras of the classic monster films.  Have a lot of fun, like I have painting them.

BIO

Lorraine Brinit Bush was raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with an Associate Degree in Visual Communications and from LaRoche College of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Art and Design.  She has worked as an artist-illustrator designing and painting book covers, decorator plate designs, and doll designs.  Her work has also appeared on bookmarks, magnets, coloring books, calendars, postcards, journals, mugs, throws, and decals.  Lorraine has done commercial work for Bradford Exchange, Simon & Shuster, Zebra Publishing, Tyndale Publishing, Pinnacle, Thomas Nelson Publishing, Cook Communications, Barbour Publishing, Lenox, Danbury Mint, and Ashton & Drake Galleries.  Also, she has created classic monster paintings for the Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Lon Chaney estates.

Lorraine taught painting and crafts at Alvernia College in Reading, Pa.  She has won sixth place and tied 3rd place doing fly-fishing paintings in Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commissions competitions.  She has always had an interest in horror and science fiction and painted classic monsters and Star Trek and Star Wars paintings.  Her father, who taught her art as a child, suggested she enter the painting competition at the 1993, 35th Famous Monsters of Filmland Convention at the Hyatt in Crystal City, VA.  She won a first place award.  This gave her incentive to do additional monster paintings.  She has exhibited her science fiction and classic monster illustrations at various conventions since 1986, including the Chiller Theatre Conventions at the Hilton, Secaucus, NJ, from 1993-97 and the Horror and Comic Convention at the Expo Center in Monroeville, PA, in 2002. Lorraine has also exhibited at Monster Bash, held in various locations in Western Pennsylvania from 1998 to the recent 2006 convention, where she received the Rondo award for best cover of 2005 on Monster Bash magazine #4.

Cheryl Capezzuti

STATEMENT

This whimsical selection of small puppets and masks has been an interesting departure from my better-known work making giant puppets and orchestrating large-scale public art projects.  Some of the work is inspired by traditional hand and rod style puppets one finds in Eastern cultures, but they are crafted from materials we most often discard including rags, dust mops, dryer lint and recycled hardware.  The rest of the puppets and masks are simply experiments with papier maché and other colorful materials bringing life to more of the imaginary characters in my brain.

BIO

Cheryl Capezzuti has exhibited work in Pittsburgh and around the country since 1993.  She is best know for The National Lint Project and her most recent public project, Puppets for Pittsburgh, which places giant puppets at public events all over the city.  Her work has been seen on Good Morning America, NBC News and, most recently, on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
